virtualizationOne of the biggest advances in computer science in recent years is Virtualization Technology. Virtualization enables companies to do really cool things like reduce the number of physical servers required to support their organization by creating a “virtual” computer, and running 2, 4, 8, 16 of them on a single server!

Virtual machines can then be managed and accessed like any other computer, moved to other computers, backed up, create snap shots of a computer based on a pre-configured starting point, and much more. Software development companies also can take advantage of virtualization technology to test their software on different operating systems, and when they are done, they just press a button and “roll-back” the virtual computer to a previously saved condition and do it again…

Virtualization is very beneficial to large corporations, and end-users have taken note.

Welcome to your worst nightmare!
Today, computers are cheap, fast and capable of running Virtual PCs on-top, within, and in “coherance” with the operating system that the computer came with! Additionally, the software required to create and run a virtual PC can be found commercially for less than US $100, or even FREE on the Internet. The tools required to do virtualization are very easy to learn, even easier to use, and are a true threat to your company’s bottom line!

Why is this a problem?
Virtualization has no boundaries when it comes to your computer. Every aspect about a virtual computer can be controlled and manipulated. They can be made to emulate a specific computer’s configuration, and do it indefinitely!

Software vendors have had fully functioning “demo” software be loaded on a Virtual PC and kept running for months, even years, without any penalty, and without the software vendor realizing that they had lost another sale because of virtualization technology. In other instances, customers have loaded a specific configuration of a virtual computer with software, and then copied the entire Virtual PC image to other computers so that 10+ users could use one copy of software at the same time!

Why Nitro-LM “works” in a virtualization scenario!
Nitro-LM is unique in its functionality and process. Being an on-line license process embeds fundamental controls for how your software and intellectual properties can be used, for how long and in what capacity. No matter if your customer is running a Virtual PC or a normal computer, Nitro-LM needs to be involved for things to work properly.
Virtualization technologies present a unique temptation for customers that desire to keep your software running on their systems beyond the terms of your relationship. Nitro-LM’s on-line licensing process removes the threat and keeps your relationship in control. It is always harder to keep things running, when critical pieces of information are not available to the local machine. This applies to conventional software licensing as well as Software as a Service (SaaS) business models.
